Authors support authors! These reviews are based off my own personal opinion, and I will only ever post reviews of books that I enjoyed reading. To be updated occasionally, as long as my writing process let me read!
Young Adult Recommendations:
- Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan- 5/5- I will ALWAYS recommend the Percy Jackson series, it’s one of my absolute all-time favorites. We get to learn about the Roman and Greek Gods all the while following the non-stop, funny adventures of Percy. It makes you laugh, and cry, and it’s gut-wrenching sometimes. It’s a literature work of art. 10/10 recommend.
- The Giver by Lois Lowry- 4/5- It’s a little slow at times, but it’s definitely worth it! It teaches a lot about the utopian society and the meaning and significance of humanity. It shows the beautiful part, as well as the horrible parts, and posts a philosophical question; is it worth losing our humanity to maintain a perfect society? It’s part of a trilogy, but books two and three are sitting in my TBR, abandoned and alone.
- The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins- 4/5 because WHY did (censored name even though everyone knows who I’m talking about) have to die? Yes, him too. By the way, possible spoiler alerts? Other than that, LOVED the friends to lovers trope, the surprise announcements during interviews, badass outfits, and kickass FMC (female main character). I still have to read the prequel, but I heard it was great!
- The Hunger Games
- Catching Fire
- Mockingjay
- Divergent series by Veronica Roth- 4/5 stars. We loved Four, we loved Tris kicking butt, we loved the whole thing. Didn’t love the ending, but I’m not going to spoil it. Still a very good series. Don’t come at me later. And yes, the books are better than the movies.
- Divergent
- Insurgent
- Allegiant
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green- 5/5 stars because everything John Green writes in 5/5 stars? Seriously though, cancer affects SO many people, and many can relate to the complications that come with that diagnosis, not only for the patient, but for the whole family. It affects relationships, and every life decision. Thank you, John Green, for making us cry and ripping our souls to pieces.
- The entire Harry Potter series. My mom read the Sorcerer’s Stone book to me using voices when I was eight years old. That was when I started loving books. I asked her to read the second one to me and she told me I was on my own lol. I skimmed the second book, ngl, but I did read the third onwards. If it wasn’t for her and Harry Potter, I wouldn’t have been able to write my own books. What a shame that’d be.
- Sorcerer’s Stone
- Chamber of Secrets
- Prisoner of Azkaban
- Goblet of Fire (RIP Cedric)
- Order of the Phoenix
- Half-Blood Prince
- Deathly Hallows
Adult recommendations:
- The ACOTAR series- 5/5 stars- Because why not get the elephant in the room out of the way? This is a fantasy romance series by Sarah J. Maas, there IS adult content, and the first book is a little slow to get used to in the first half, but I promise it’s so worth it! I am still working on reading her other books, Throne of Glass and Crescent City series. They do form part of a multiverse that works together, so it’s definitely a big project to jump into, but I swear those books are addictive.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses- spice level: 1/5.
- A Court of Mist and Fury- spice level: 4/5
- A Court of Wings and Ruins- spice level: 3/5
- A Court of Frost and Starlight- 1/5
- A Court of Silver Flames- 4/5
- The Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn- 4/5 stars- I’m willing to put aside the fact that I’m a feminist for fictional men, and I know I’m not the only one! We all know we wouldn’t want in real life the kind of men we like to read about, but it’s so much fun to read about! These books DO have some things I find cringe-worthy, and sometimes uncomfortable, but I think it was more normal in their time period. The books DO contain adult content, they’re a classic period romance series and I absolutely loved them. My favorite was probably Hyacinth’s book, just because I enjoyed how adventurous she was. Spice level- 3/5.Book 1: The Duke and I
- Book 2: The Viscount Who Loved Me
- Book 3: An Offer from a Gentleman
- Book 4: Romancing Mr. Bridgerton
- Book 5: To Sir Phillip, With Love
- Book 6: When He Was Wicked
- Book 7: It’s In His Kiss
- Book 8: On The Way to the Wedding
- Off-Campus Series by Elle Kennedy- 4/5 stars- Respectfully, I wanted to go find me a hockey-player boyfriend after reading this series. It’s definitely giving jock, playboy vibes, and we love to see them (in a very cliché style) turn into desperate lover boys. Spice level- 4/5
- The Deal
- The Mistake
- The score
- The Goal
- The Legacy
- Don’t come for me, my guilty pleasure is Nora Roberts books. 3/5 stars. They’re the comfort books I read when I’m in a book slump. A little cliché? Maybe, but good. Like a cheeseburger. Or pizza. But don’t eat that, it’s not healthy. Spice level- 3/5
-
- Born in (Fire/Ice/ Shame) series
- The Calhouns Series (Catherine/Amanda/Lilah/Suzanna/Megan)
- Irish series (Hearts/ Rebel/Rose/Thoroughbred)
- Dark Olympus books by Katee Robert – 4/5 stars. I’m still working (very slowly) on this series because she’s published SO many books so fast. Too fast for me, to be honest, but I liked these three. There was one other book that she published that wasn’t my cup of tea, but still very popular. Everyone has different tastes! And the stories include curvy women. Spice level- 4/5
- Neon Gods
- Electric Idol
- Wicked Beauty
- It Happened One Summer/Hook Line Sinker by Tessa Bailey – 4/5 stars. These are such fun reads! I was absolutely in love with the MMCs (male main characters) and was thinking it may be time to move to a small fishing town… that passed quickly, but for a moment, it was a burning fire idea. It was cute, and cheesy, and heart-wrenching and you’ll love it. I hope.
- The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood- 4/5 stars. Scientist at university fake dates and falls for the grumpy scientist professor that everyone is afraid of? Yes, please! We love to watch that grumpy wall fall away little by little. Spice level 1/5. Very mild, very cute! Perfect RomCom.
- The Twisted Series by Ana Huang- 4/5 stars. Spice level 5/5. I don’t… I can’t… Just read them.
- Twisted Love- Brother’s best friend
- Twisted Games- bodyguard *screams internally*
- Twisted Hate- Friend’s brother
- Twisted Lies- Forced proximity
